Anne Greatrix

Anne Greatrix

Anne was born in Stockton-on-Tees in 1936. She won a Scholarship to St Mary’s College at the University of Durham and gained a B.A. honours Degree in English Language and Literature. After a course leading to a Diploma in Education she took up a teaching post at the High School for Girls in Hartlepool.

She retired from teaching in 1968 in order to concentrate on her children. In 1996 she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma which led to her death in 2004. She continued with her miniature work right up to the last few days of her life.

Her interest in dolls houses and miniatures began when her father made her a dolls house in the early part of the second world war. Since that time she has made a huge number of 1/12 scale houses, rooms and furniture. She always strived for perfection in everything that she did. She acquired a national reputation for her work on rooms and for her fine miniature basketry and treen which was sought after as far as the United States.
